Sending a Reply

One of the easiest ways to respond to a message is to respond directly from an open email. When sending a direct reply, it is not necessary to address or write in the subject line. These are entered automatically and they can be edited easily if desired. Reply only sends the email to the person who sent the message.

1.First open a message. Retrieve the message from the Hotmail Staff, now located in the Miscellaneous folder.

2. To retrieve it, click on the Miscellaneous folder at the bottom of the left-hand column. Note that the lettering changes to bold once you are inside the folder.

3. Open the message. Remember that to open the message you must click on the blue words.

4. To reply to this message, we would click on the Reply button at the top left corner. But notice that when you press this button nothing happens. Why? Nothing is happening because the Hotmail Staff does not wish to be contacted by millions of new account holders. For now, let's continue with this hypothetical example as if this were possible.

5. By pressing the Reply button, a new message will open automatically addressed to the Hotmail Staff with the subject line reading "RE: Welcome to MSN Hotmail." RE: stands for regarding.

6. To change the subject line text, you would click inside the subject line itself and delete the text inside by using the delete or backspace button on the keyboard. Another easy way to remove the text is to click several times within the subject line until all text is highlighted in dark blue. Then press the keyboard delete button.

7. To add text to the subject line itself, be sure that cursor is inside the subject line and type the new subject.

8. To compose the message, click inside the message box, making sure that cursor is visible. Type your text inside the large white box.

9. Click the button marked Send when you are finished to send your reply.
