Dr. Tom Alsbury, associate professor in the Department of Eductional Leadership and Policy Studies, has been selected to receive the prestigious Jack Culbertson Award from the University Council for Educational Administration. The award will be presented to Dr. Alsbury at the organization's annual fall conference.
The award recognizes outstanding early-career achievement among faculty members in Educational Administration and related fields.
"The selection of Tom Alsbury for the 2008 Culbertson Award is not only a significant honor for Tom but also recognition of the important role that NC State plays in research, teaching, and outreach related to the leadership of K-12 schools and school systems," commented Dr. Bob Serow, department head for the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
Dr. Alsbury is a former teacher, K-12 principal, and central office administrator serving over 18 years. He served as an associate professor at Iowa State University for four years before joining the College of Education faculty. Dr. Alsbury is the Director of the Innovation Leaders Academy and serves on the editorial boards of several other professional journals including Educational Administration Quarterly. The author of one book and over 40 book chapters, professional articles, research papers, and monographs, and commissioned papers, much of Dr. Alsbury’s scholarly work has focused on superintendents, school boards, and district-level governance issues. Alsbury most recently published, The Future of School Board Governance: Relevancy and Revelation (2008).
