Wake tech president
stephen scott honored

June 5, 2009-- Wake Technical Community College President Dr. Stephen C. Scott has been given the I.E. Ready Award by North Carolina State University's Department of Adult and Higher Education. The award honors Dr. Scott for his service and leadership in higher education. It was established in memory of Dr. I.E. Ready, the first director of the North Carolina Community College System. Wake Tech's main campus is the home of Ready Hall, which houses the Applied Technologies programs.

In presenting the award, NC State recognized Dr. Scott's ability "to get things done and leverage scarce resources by working with others in creative ways, taking risks, and making bold commitments." He was lauded for fostering innovative partnerships like the Wake Early College and was described as a "prime mover" in the seven-college consortium that partners with NC State to operate the BioNetwork Capstone Center on NSCU's Centennial Campus. On a more personal level, he was heralded as "a fine leader with a giving and caring spirit, who always makes time for those who are learning and shares generously his own experiences and wisdom."

Dr. Stephen Scott became president of Wake Tech in October of 2003 and has been recognized as a respected advocate for community colleges on both the local and state levels. He has spearheaded Wake Tech's transition to a tobacco-free institution and the opening of the Northern Wake Campus as the first LEED-certified "green" campus in the nation. He has forged transfer agreements with four-year institutions and led successful efforts to secure bond funding for the expansion of college programs and services.

Dr. Scott was honored last fall as Community College President of the Year by the N.C. Board of Community Colleges and was named 2009 Business Leader of the Year by Business Leader Magazine.

The I.E. Ready Award was presented to Dr. Scott on May 9, as part of commencement exercises for NC State's Department of Adult and Higher Education.
