Mehlenbacher Elected Chair of
Special Interest Group on
Design of Communication
June 29, 2009-- Brad Mehlenbacher, Associate Professor in the College of Education's Adult & Higher Education Department, was elected chair of the Association for Computing Machinery Special
Interest Group on Design of Communication (ACM SIGDOC).
This is Mehlenbacher's third term as Elected Chair and, notably, ACM SIGDOC has only had one previous Chair exceed three consecutive terms as Chair in its twenty-nine year history. SIGDOC is one of 34 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that make up the ACM, the First Society in Computing and a major force in advancing the skills and knowledge of IT researchers, professionals, and students worldwide.
In addition to his duties as Chair, Mehlenbacher is Co-Chairing the 27th ACM International Conference on Design of Communication being hosted by Indiana University's School of Informatics and Kelley School of Business in Bloomington, IN, October 5-7, 2009. ACM SIGDOC members will explore emerging connections between communication design, education, computer science, and the complexity sciences.
ACM serves as an umbrella organization offering its 90,000 members various forums to fulfill its members needs, including access to cutting-edge technical information, world-class journals and magazines, hosts of international conferences, and the award-winning ACM Digital Library. SIGDOC members include technical communication professionals, software engineers, educators, researchers, web designers, system developers, computer scientists, information technology professionals, usability specialists, and managers responsible for creating technical materials, online information systems, websites, and user interfaces.
