CED Student Named

Miss Fayetteville 2009

January 12, 2009-- Adrienne Leigh Core, junior in math education and Teaching Fellow, was named Miss Fayetteville 2009 Saturday night.

“It’s something I have worked so hard for,” Adrienne said a few minutes after she was crowned. “To see it all just come into place all at one time was incredible. Those were seven amazing young women, and I am proud to represent them and Fayetteville.”

Her father, Charles F. Core, died in 2006 of cancer, she said. Her platform is supporting the V Foundation, a cancer research group created to honor the late Jim Valvano, who coached N.C. State University to a national basketball title in 1983.

Adrienne has always known she wanted to be a teacher and says, “NC State was actually the only college application I submitted and after early admissions, there was no doubt I was headed to my second home.  Being a Teaching Fellow at NCSU has created a network with my peers that I would not have found elsewhere.  This program is preparing each of us to be the best possible teachers while we also develop relationships with each other that carry over to our classrooms.”

She won a $3,500 cash scholarship and a host of other gifts from past winners and supporting businesses. As Miss Fayetteville she will spend the year promoting The V Foundation, as well as Children's Miracle Network.  “Community service and being involved throughout the community is a major part of holding any preliminary title and I hope to impact as many lives as possible,” reflects Adrienne.

Adrienne will continue on to compete in the Miss North Carolina pageant June 23-27 and held at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.
