Admission Procedures

• The following are required:

  1. Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test (cannot be more than 5 years old).

  4. A letter of application stating your professional goals and how a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education will support those goals.

Deadlines for Applications

The Mathematics Education graduate program reviews applications twice a year. Listed below are the following deadlines for receiving completed applications for admission for various terms:

Fall: * October 1, February 1

Spring: *October 1

Summer 1: *October 1, February 1

Summer 2: *October 1, February 1

**Priority Deadline for International Students: October 1

*Applicants accepted for Summer or Fall admission in October of the prior year may receive funding priorities for fellowships and assistantships.

**Because of the amount of paperwork needed for entering international graduate students, applications from international students should be complete (including submission of GRE and TOEFL scores) for the October 1 review. Those that are complete for the February 1 review are not guaranteed to be processed in time for Fall admissions.

The Graduate Faculty in Mathematics Education act as an admission committee for those applying to the program. Once the admissions committee reviews a student's completed application, a student may be requested to come to campus for an interview. The admissions committee makes a recommendation to the Graduate Dean who makes the final decision, and the Graduate School formally notifies the applicant when final action on the application has been taken.

Post-Baccalaureate Studies (PBS)

Students may take a maximum of 12 semester hours as a PBS student before they are admitted to a Graduate Program. Consult with a graduate faculty member in Mathematics Education before registering for a course. Registration for PBS courses can be completed at the McKimmon Center. Call (919) 515-2265 for information.
