Elementary Education Faculty Position

The Department of Elementary Education at NC State University is looking to recruit faculty who are interested in developing leaders in elementary mathematics education for the state and our nation. This is a newly created elementary education department with a strong STEM focus. At the undergraduate level, the elementary teacher education program has a mathematics and science emphasis with rigorous mathematics and science general education requirements and a variety of STEM-related courses during the professional semesters. At the graduate and research levels, the department supports partnerships with other STEM educators and STEM faculty across campus.

Responsibilities:  

  • Establish and maintain a scholarly research, publication, and grant-writing record in Elementary Mathematics Education that is aligned with a Research University with Very High research activity (Research Extensive);
  • Teach elementary level mathematics education courses to prospective teachers;
  • Teach other elementary level or mathematics education courses including masters and doctoral level classes;
  • Provide advising for undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Assist in department and college outreach;
  • Assist in ongoing program revision and assessment;
  • Collaborate with STEM faculty in other colleges to strengthen mathematics and/or science courses for elementary teachers.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Earned doctorate degree in Mathematics Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Learning Sciences or related fields with a research focus in elementary mathematics education;
  • Potential to establish or proven scholarly research and publication record appropriate for a Research University with Very High research activity (Research Extensive)—breadth and depth of scholarly work needs to be commensurate with rank;
  • Commitment to social justice, innovation, and collaboration in working with schools and university colleagues;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in K-6 schools or equivalent settings;
  • Capacity to lead courses focusing on diversity and a commitment to integrating diversity related materials into the mathematics curriculum;
  • Experience in integrating technology into teaching.
  • Graduate-level course-work in mathematics.
