Don't forget to.....
Tours are given by costumed hosts who are very knowledgeable of the history of the house and Joel Lane's life - so make sure you pick their brains about anything and everything you want to know!  The house itself, is a perfect representation of a house in the early 1800's, and shows the many ways that colonial settlers dealt with the limited resources they had.  A common theme running throughout the house is "form and function."

Make sure to check out these areas in the house, and ask your kids what they think they may have been used for:
    -matching front and back doors
    -high ceilings
-the diagonally patterned floor covering in the hallway
-the tables in the "hall" (entertainment/dining area)
-tea caddy in the winter sitting room
-the small size of the winter sitting room
-the light fixture hanging in the stairwell
-the rope bed and rope tightener in the children's room upstairs
-the bed warmer in the children's room
    -the master bed's canopy
-the low chair in the kitchen house
